OSU WATER IN THE NEWS

A special seminar on water and agriculture, and a second annual event focusing on Oregon State University Beavers past and present highlight the education and outreach efforts of this year’s Northwest Ag Show.

Katy Coba, director of the Oregon Department of Agriculture, and Dan Arp, dean of agricultural sciences at OSU, will present a seminar on “Water Use and the Research, Collaboration and Policy Making Behind Its Regulation” from 3 to 5 p.m. on Jan. 28 in Rooms D202 and D203 of the Portland Expo Center.

WATER COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENTS

  • Mini-Mediation Skills Workshop, Thursday, January 23, 11:30 - 1:00pm | Wilkinson 203

OSU Mediators Beyond Borders (OSU-MBB) will present a mini-skill building workshop featuring a presentation by Aaron Wolf on listening skills to improve your professional and personal communications. Other mediation skills will also be introduced to provide an introduction to OSU-MBB and our past and future activities. FREE LUNCH will be provided – please RSVP to difranck@onid.orst.edu for an accurate head count.

  • Special CUAHSI Cyberseminar: "Watershed Modeling to Assess  the Sensitivity of Streamflow, Nutrient, and Sediment Loads to  Potential Climate Change and Urban Development in 20 U.S. Watersheds" by Dr. Thomas Johnson

Members of the Water, Sustainability, and Climate (WSC) community Roy Haggerty, Tom Meixner, and Patrick Belmont will host a cyberseminar where Dr. Johnson will discuss the release of the final report released by the EPA this fall. From the release: “There is growing concern about the potential effects of climate change on water resources. To develop this report, watershed modeling was conducted in 20 large U.S. watersheds to characterize the sensitivity of streamflow, nutrient (nitrogen and phosphorus), and sediment loading to a range of plausible mid-21st century climate change and urban development scenarios. The report also provides an improved understanding of methodological challenges associated with integrating existing tools (e.g., climate models, downscaling approaches, and watershed models) and data sets to address these scientific questions. To view the study and related links, visit: http://cfpub.epa.gov/ncea/global/recordisplay.cfm?deid=256912.”

Join the seminar (Thursday, January 23rd, 2 -3 PM ET) at: http://cuahsi.adobeconnect.com/cyberseminar/
