  • Pacific Northwest Clean Water Association (PNCWA) Public Education Committee seeks water professionals to volunteer as judges for national competition in Portland, OR!

City of Corvallis Water Conservation Program Specialist and Water Resources Graduate Program Faculty member Mark Taratoot requests your volunteer service to support science education.  The Stockholm Junior Water Prize is an internationally renowned competition.  The Pacific Northwest always sends an entrant to the national competition.  The national winner travels to Stockholm to compete internationally.  This year, the national competition is in Portland, Oregon June 14 -16.

The PNCWA Public Education Committee seeks water professionals to volunteer as judges on June 15.  Judges will have all meals provided including the awards banquet should they wish to attend.  Prior to the competition, each judge will review eight to 12 papers; on judging day, all judges will review all the scores to select a champion.  If you want to help but don’t feel comfortable being a judge, there are other ways to help.  Coaches stay with the students Friday and Saturday night and accompany them through the events and tours.  If you want to help out for just a few hours, consider being an airport greeter on Friday or help get students back on their planes on Sunday.

The PNCWA is also looking for sponsors to help fund some aspects of the event; your dollars are always welcome!

Please contact Catherine Chertudi to offer your time or sponsorship to this prestigious event.  You can reach Catherine by phone at 208-384-3912 or by e-mail at cchertudi@cityofboise.org.

  • IWW Director Todd Jarvis appointed member of the Oregon State Board of Geologists Examiners (OSBGE) (Oregon Geologist Examiner)

IWW Director Todd Jarvis hit the ground running in his new role as a Governor Kitzhaber-appointed member of the Oregon State Board of Geologists Examiners (OSBGE). He has broached the subject of expanding the pool of licensees to include geographers in this provocative editorial in the OSBGE Newsletter.

His most recent editorial focused on professional ethics and built upon the concept of Stealth Issue Advocacy in the geosciences as developed by OSU Professor Robert Lackey.

He will be presenting the importance of professional licensing to the GEO 407 class, From Student to Professional, on Febuary 8, 2013 during lunch in Room 193 in Burt Hall. Contact David Dickson David.Dickson@oregonstate.edu to reserve your fair share of American Dream Pizza!
