  • Australian River Restoration Issues Presentation

G'Day Water Community,

On Thursday June 20th at 6 PM at the Presbyterian Church at 114 SW 8th St, Meyer Memorial Trust will have the honor of hosting some visitors from Australia here in Oregon. They are from the Condamine Alliance, a natural resources conservation organization and winner of the 2013 Thiess Australian Riverprize (The Willamette River won the Thiess International Riverprize the same year). They are traveling to the Willamette basin for a learning tour and have offered to tell us about their river restoration work in the Murray-Darling Basin of Southern Queensland, Australia. We'll hear about river restoration issues, Aussie-style - including efforts to restore their unique native fishes, combat invasive carp and tilapia, and work with Aboriginal groups toward a vision to restore the river system’s health and increase native fish populations to 60% of pre-European settlement levels by 2050.

On behalf of Marys River Watershed Council, we hope you'll join us for what promises to be a lively and fascinating presentation!
