  • 6th Annual Dixon Creek Stream Tour (Three Waters Project) on June 1st

If you want to see how stormwater mitigation makes a difference on each of our home and business properties, as the Three Waters Project is exemplifying , please register and attend the Dixon Creek Stream Tour on June 1st from 1:00-4:00 pm.  Space is limited for this free tour so register today! Below is a description of the tour:

A free “Share The Stream” tour of Dixon Creek will be held Saturday, June 1, 2013 from 1:00 – 4:00 pm. Open to the public, stream tourists will explore this hidden treasure of Corvallis while travelling by City trolley (limited seating) or on their own bikes for a group ride along 3.5 miles of this meandering waterway. Dixon Creek begins on Dimple Hill and IV Hill above the Timberhill residential area, flows under more than 25 roads, behind three schools, many businesses and churches, plus countless homes before its final run into the Willamette River by the City’s Wastewater Treatment Plant.

Tourists will stop at five stream sites hosted by experts who will show evidence that this heavily impacted urban stream is shared with both aquatic and terrestrial animals, small and large. Some of the sites include constructed wetlands, raingardens, bioswales, a homeowner streambank restoration, special fish habitats and even a fish ladder where Dixon Creek flows into the Willamette River. Participants will also hear and see how we have changed Dixon Creek over the past 150 years and what we are doing now to help revive some of its historic environmental and cultural services.

The tour is the sixth annual urban stream tour sponsored by Benton Soil and Water Conservation District, the City of Corvallis, the Corvallis Sustainability Coalition and the Marys Peak Group of the Sierra Club.

To register and receive meeting place information, contact Heath Keirstead at hkeirstead@bentonswcd.org <mailto:hkeirstead@bentonswcd.org> or call her at (541) 753-7208. Be sure to say if you wish to tour by trolley or your bike. Also, Dixon Creek “Share the Stream” T-shirts may be ordered in advance for a small charge to cover their cost.
