Water Community Announcements

• TEDx OSU Talks Now Available On-Line

On April 17, 2012 at the LaSells Stewart Center on the Oregon State University Campus, the first TEDx OSU event was held with the general theme focusing on water, weather, and energy of Our Planet. This event brought thought leaders together to inspire OSU students, faculty, community members, and alumni. Over 50 applications were received to speak.

Featured speakers include: Jim Walls, the Executive Director for the Lake County Resources Initiative (LCRI), a non-profit working on natural resource projects spoke on America's First Energy Zero County. Kendra Sharp, Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Energy, Water, and Women Engineers. Mark Owen, OSU Mechanical Engineering alum ('81) and CEO of Puralytics on The Future of Water. John Selker, Professor of Biological and Ecological Engineering on Weather Africa? The TAHMO Continental Observatory.

• Water Faculty part of International Water (IW) Teams

The IW:Science Synthesis Report, bringing all of the findings together across the 5 IW System types as well as state of the science information available in published literature was written in a similar format to the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment and IPCC Assessment Reports. The 5 x Synopsis Reports and 5 x Analysis Reports are available by clicking on one of the links to the reports here: http://www.inweh.unu.edu/River/IWScience.htm. Lynette DeSilva, Associate Director for the Program in Water Conflict Management and Transformation at OSU participated in the Rivers team. Todd Jarvis, Interim Director of IWW, participated in the Groundwater team. Comprising the final and policy impacting outcome of the IW:Science project, the Synthesis Report will be launched at the inaugural GEF IW Science Conference in Bangkok, 24-26 September. The Conference is being organized by UNEP as part of the UNDP/UNEP GEF IW:LEARN program.
