Water Seminars & Films Sponsored by the IWW

OSU hosts three water-related seminar series and one film series each year.

• In the Fall, the IWW sponsors a water resources seminar series that usually has a water management focus.

  • Fall 2007 - Revisiting Restoration, Reconstruction, and Renaturalization of Engineered Landscapes: Technical, Political, Legal and Natural Resistance

  • Fall 2006 - focused on The Politics of Water

• In the Winter, the Hydrophiles water resources club often sponsors a seminar series and for the past two years, the IWW has sponsored a water film series.

  • Winter 2008 - Water Film Series

  • Winter 2007 - Hydrophiles Seminar - Getting Involved in Oregon Water Issues; Water Film Series

  • Winter 2006 - Some OSU Hydrology Alumni and their current jobs and projects

• In the Spring, Hydrophiles, various OSU departments, the IWW, and others sponsor a Spring Hydrology Seminar Series.

  • Spring 2008 - Water in the West (videos and PDFs of presentations are available online)

  • Spring 2007 - Tracers in Hydrology

In addition to these series, the IWW sponsors additional lectures during the year. Some recent events include:

  • April 21. Kevin McRay, Executive Director, National Groundwater Association, America's Groundwater Dependence: Trends and Forecasts in a Changing Marketplace. Presented as a Webinar.
  • May 2, 4-6 p.m., MU 208. Cynthia Barnett, journalist, environmental historian and author of Mirage: Florida and the Vanishing Waters of the Eastern U.S..
  • April 23, 2:00-4:00 p.m., OSU Memorial Union 208. Living Waters: Connection and Separation in Water, from Physical, Legal, Political, and Spiritual Perspectives. Speakers include: Scott Leibowitz, Aaron Wolf, Benjamin Barnett.
• 2007
  • May 11. Dr. Jerome Delli Priscoli, Senior Advisor at the Institute for Water Resources, US Army Corps of Engineers, Editor in Chief of the International Journal,Water Policy
  • April 25-26. Ray Newmyer, Hydrogeologist& Hydrophilanthropist, NWP Drilling & Consulting. Two lectures on: Drilling Through Cultures and Drill Rig Applications for Hydrologists.
