Water and Watersheds Initiative

Suva at with H2OSU poster. In 2004, OSU developed a new Strategic Plan to guide the University's direction for the 21st Century. One plan component was a call to fund six interdisciplinary research initiatives. The goal was to help the University become a leader in emerging interdisciplinary fields by supporting targeted faculty hires, equipment purchases, scholarships and other new program needs. OSU held an internal competition and teams of faculty submitted proposals for the initiatives. In January 2005, the winning proposals were announced with the Water and Watersheds Initiative among them.

The Water and Watersheds Initiative led to the establishment of the IWW and the hiring of Michael Campana as the Institute director. It also provides funding for programs such as the Collaboratory, the Graduate Diversity & Excellence Scholarships, Graduate Research Support and supplemental funding for the IWW-USGS Grant program.
